Not Connecting To The Internet?

There are many reasons why you may not be able to connect to the internet so let's assume that you connect though an ADSL router and that everything has worked fine in the past.

Routers are little boxes with flashing lights that let you have a permanent connection to the Internet. In fact they're not routers at all and the generic name for them is Residential Gateways. To be completly accurate we should talk about DSL Modems or Cable Modems but router is a lot shorter and these days, not so far from the truth.

First make sure that the power to the router hasn't been accidentally switched off and that all cables to it are securely plugged in.

Second check the lights on the router. Most likely there will be ...

  • One to indicate that power is on
  • One to show that the DSL signal is present
  • One or more to indicate an ethernet connection and/or
  • One to indicate a USB connection
  • Possibly one to indicate a wireless access point

If anything looks unusal about the lights on the router then switch the power off then on for the router. If this doesn't work, contact your ISP and tell them what the issue is.

If you are unsure about any of this, or know that the service from your ISP is working fine, then call Groby Computers Ltd as something may have gone wrong with your PC.
